After having read the article " Twenty Ideas for Using Mobile Phones in the Language Classroom " and applied some ideas from it to a class activity (Mobile-assited language learning), please reflect on the 2 following questions and post your commnets in group:

1. Which 2 tips do you consider are the most practical/feasible to use with your real language classes. Why?

2. Which 2 tips do you think would definitely not fit in your current or usual teaching practice and explain why.

  1. 1.We consider that the most practical are the recording feature and writing notes feature because they do not require high tech cell phones and they are accesible to most of the students.

2.It is not feasible to use cell phones to interact in English social networks such as twitter or facebook because it requires to have the technology and most of our students can not afford neither the internet service nor the high tech cell phones.Additionally, the use of videocamera is not a reliable feature to use in class, because most of the students do not have access to this kind of resources.

  2. Most practical:
using the Notes function to store vocabulary and using the Voice recorder function Because They are some basic functions that most cellphones have, therefore, availability wouldn't be much of a problem. Recording voices is something that engages students a lot, plus it's very funny. Additionally, with the notes functions students can keep a data base of the vocabulary they have studied in class and check it at any moment.

    Not very practical:
Text messaging and using cellphones to access a blog because they're functions that not many cellphones have and not many students have credit for sending messages or accessing the web. In addition to this, the number of students would be problematic because it's difficult to provide feedback to every single student and they can get distracted using internet for other purposes. Another thing to take into account is the school policy in reference to the use of cellphones in class.

  3. 1.Instead of choosing just two good tips, we think that any of the ideas of using cell phones to record voices and send text messages are the best ones in our context. The majority of cell phones have the option to send text messages and most of them have voice recorders. However, we have to think about some difficulties: money and availability of bluetooth.
2.The two ideas that are not easily available in our usual teachingpractice are the ones that require access to Internet connection such as using skype, twitter and blogs. This is because we need high tech cell phones with access to Internet and with enough money.

  4. GOOD
1-Use the note features to collect everyday language: It will be useful in a real classroom context because students just have to take notes about single words and we can do that with all kind of cellphones.
2-Use the voice Memo Recorder feature to record conversations: it is nice for students because it is a creative activity and they will enjoy listening what they say and at the same time they can improve their pronunciation.
    BAD
1-Use the mobile phone for microblogging on twitter: we will not apply this activity because in real classrooms we will not find the necessary tools to implement it, not all of students have advance cellphones technology.
2- Use the mobile phone to play games: we do not consider this activity as a good idea, because it is a hard to teach a topic through playing games on a cellphone, students will not behave and they will do what they want.

  5. Two practical options can be:1. use the notes mobile phone to remember vocabulary because it helos students study the words they have learnt in a way that is appealing to them. 2. Use the voice recorder option, not only to record their lessons but to record themselves and check their own pronounciation.

Not so practical options:1. Messaging. I think this option allows students to get distracted texting with their classmates instead of the activity proposed for the lesson. 2. I must say Ii do not like the idea of students bringing cellphones into the classroom at all, it can make our job much more difficult
